Indoor Drumline
Barriers
Throughout the course of History, Man has dealt with barriers. Be they walls or fortresses, mountains or rivers, oceans or continents, or, just barriers in our mind. We have spent countless hours and resources building them up or tearing them down. “Barriers” allows for a visual and musical exploration of these barriers throughout . Build the walls and tear them down, trap the line in a “mental” or “social” wall or use the walls to keep the line separated from each other or from the front ensemble – the visual possibilities abound!

Pathways
A solid intermediate level battery book with flams, drags and roll opportunities in just the right places to show some flash while still being very playable. Tempo creates excitement and dynamic phrasing drives the piece. Pathways is a light but very substantial show with definite educational value. Battery concepts included elongated phrases, triplet rolls, subtle buzz rolls, rapid paradiddle-diddles, sextuplet subdivision for bass drums and flowing tenor exposures.

Realms
Realms explores the three divisions of the world recognized by Ancients - Underworld, Midworld and Heaven (or Upperworld). The Underworld is the shadowy land of the Dead or the land of our ancestors - a dark and unsettling opening to "Realms". It is also a source of wonderful fertility and inspiration that arises from the wisdom of our Ancestors and source to Midworld, or, the world in which we live. This portion of Realms serves as the transition to our ultimate goal of attaining the Upperworld or, Heaven, the place of order, where the Shining Ones dwell. We complete our exploration of the Ancient worlds with the joyful sounds of the shining sky of Heaven.

Recess
A playful, reminiscent return to the ritual of recess, this work contains longer phrases introducing directional dynamic contrasts and extended segment features in this rollicking episode. Battery concepts include introduction to flams, drags, isolated diddles, full battery segment passages, segmental features and driving dynamic phrasing. These concepts are a great training tool for musicality and will help your percussionists in all other ensembles where musicality matters!

Paint by Numbers
Visual possibilities abound! Paint by Number represents those kits with indicated areas to paint, each area having a number and a corresponding numbered paint to use. Four colors are represented throughout the piece: Yellow – light and airy much like a sunny Summer day. Green – earthy, grounded you might even say a Hoe Down! Blue – dark and contemplative. Red – energetic and angry! Paint a musical and visual picture for your audience!
